Which is better for RAM: 2x16GB or 4x8GB?

I'm trying to decide between two RAM configurations for my setup. Should I go for 2 sticks of 16GB, giving me a total of 32GB, or 4 sticks of 8GB, which also totals 32GB? Any insights into performance, stability, or future upgradeability would really help! Also, I've decided to go with DDR5. Thanks for your input!

Generally, 2 sticks of 16GB will be a better choice. Most modern motherboards are optimized for dual-channel setups, and using just 2 sticks can lead to better stability and performance. Plus, DDR5 can become unstable with more DIMMs, especially when trying to use EXPO or XMP profiles to achieve higher speeds. So if you can get 2 dual-ranked sticks, that's usually ideal!

Just to clarify, even if a board has 4 slots, it still runs dual-channel by pairing the sticks. It's just about how you configure them!
