Need Help Choosing a Replacement Motherboard for My Friend’s PC

I'm purchasing my friend's broken PC, which has a failed motherboard according to the shop. I want to buy a new motherboard, but I'm not sure which one would be compatible with the existing components that I won't be replacing. Also, I have no idea what caused the old motherboard to fail, but I'd like some tips on how to prevent that from happening again in the future. Here's the build I'm working with: [DPH2005 - Saved Part Lists - PCPartPicker](https://nl.pcpartpicker.com/user/DPH2005/saved/#view=kL37vK)

Since you're using a 9700K, you definitely need to get a Z390 motherboard instead of a B board. The Z390 will give you better performance and overclocking options. You might want to check out the ASRock Z390 Phantom Gaming 4 or the Phantom Gaming 4S. Just a heads up, they’re ATX, while your old one was mini-ATX, but it sounds like your PSU cables should fit. Make sure to double-check the dimensions to fit your case!

Yeah, those boards should work fine. Just watch the size to ensure it fits well in your case!

Also, if you have extra fans or airflow issues in your case, they could be what caused the death of the last motherboard. Make sure everything is properly ventilated!

Switching to a Z390 board is a smart move. Just remember to confirm all your other parts are compatible, especially if you're not replacing them. The last board dying could also be due to overheating, power surges, or a bad PSU, so keep an eye on those too!

Thanks for the tip! I’m definitely going to look into the PSU and make sure it’s adequate.

Yeah, it's a bummer when these things happen. Just be cautious while setting everything up!
