I'm trying to figure out how to use USB over IP to connect a keyboard and mouse to control a Windows PC that's in another room. The only thing I have available is a wired ethernet cable that's already part of my network. Unfortunately, I can't run a second cable since the rooms are on separate floors, and Bluetooth or wireless options are not feasible for me. I've looked into devices like the Silex USB Device Server, but it's too pricey for just a keyboard and mouse. My current fallback is using an old computer for Remote Desktop, but that seems like overkill. Has anyone dealt with a situation like this and found a solution I might have overlooked? Note that I don't need it to work in BIOS; anything that runs inside Windows is fine.

Since your target PC is using Windows, have you considered using Remote Desktop? It's a pretty straightforward way to control it. You can just log in and operate the PC as if you're sitting right in front of it.
