How can I remove the Steam desktop icon on Linux Mint?

I've got Steam on my panel, but that desktop icon is really bugging me! I tried dragging it to the trash like you would with a normal shortcut, but it doesn't seem to work that way. I'm using Linux Mint with the Cinnamon desktop environment, and I'm a bit unsure about what happens if I hit delete. Will it just remove the icon, or could it mess things up and uninstall Steam? I really don't want to lose all my game setups!

Hitting delete should just remove the icon without uninstalling Steam. Make sure you’re just selecting the icon and not something else. It can be a bit scary, but it generally won't mess with your games. You can always check your games list afterward to be safe!

What desktop environment are you running? That can make a difference in how you manage icons. If you're on Cinnamon like you mentioned, normally those icons can be safely deleted without affecting your programs.
