Feeling Overwhelmed as a Junior Developer – Any Tips?

Hey everyone, I've been a junior developer for almost two years now and I'm starting to feel really overwhelmed in my role. I switched to software development in my 30s through my company's retraining program, and while the summer course was great and focused on React and Node.js, I ended up on a backend team that primarily works with Java. Our project involves a huge array of complex microservices using Spring Boot and various AWS technologies, which is a lot to take in.

Even though I understand individual pieces of code when shown, I struggle to retain the information or understand how everything integrates within our larger ecosystem. Right now, there's a lot of changes happening and I can't keep pace with the references and discussions my colleagues have. I'm also currently going through the ADHD diagnosis process, which makes everything feel even more challenging.

I'm looking for advice on how I might be able to learn and absorb information better—any techniques or experiences you could share? Does it get easier with time?

Welcome to the club! It sounds like a wild ride. Just remember, your job isn't to memorize everything; it's to know where to find the information. We all have to adapt and figure out how to look things up quickly. It might help to focus on understanding how to navigate your resources instead of stressing about recalling every detail.

But when it comes to discussing systems with others, they seem to remember things so easily. How do you handle that when you feel lost?
