Hey folks! I recently switched from Fedora to Ubuntu on my Thinkpad P15, but I'm having a really annoying issue. If I boot the laptop with the lid open, everything works as it should, and I can close the lid without any problems—the internal screen turns off, and my external monitor(s) work just fine.
However, if I try to boot it with the lid closed, the laptop gets stuck on the Lenovo logo screen with the Ubuntu logo at the bottom. The only way to get it moving again is by performing a hard reset. I've already tried modifying some settings:
- Changed `GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"` to `GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash video=eDP-1:d"` in the /etc/default/grub file and ran update-grub, but that didn't help.
- I also uncommented `HandleLidSwitch=ignore` and `HandleLidSwitchDocked=ignore` in /etc/systemd/logind.conf.
- Additionally, I uncommented `#WaylandEnable=true` in /etc/gdm3/custom.conf.
I'm really frustrated because I thought Ubuntu would be more user-friendly. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Are you using an external monitor and keyboard? That might be part of the issue if you're trying to boot with the lid closed. It's worth checking if that setup might complicate the boot process.
I had similar issues when switching to Ubuntu. I found that trying to switch to console mode at boot helped. If you're still having trouble with the external monitor showing a black screen but the internal one working, it might help to check your display settings once you're logged in.
It sounds like your system is getting stuck at boot because of the lid closed state. You can try switching to console output by pressing F10 (or possibly F8, F9, F11, or F12) during boot. That might show you where things are getting stuck. Let us know what you see when it hangs!
