I'm trying to set up a KVM (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) switch to use my Dell S3422DWG monitor with both my gaming PC and my work laptop. Right now, my gaming PC is hooked up to the monitor via DisplayPort, so I can enjoy 144Hz gaming. My work laptop doesn't have a DisplayPort option, but it can connect through HDMI or USB-C.
I'm not entirely sure if a KVM setup is the best way to go, but my main goal is to use one monitor for both devices without sacrificing gaming performance. I'd appreciate any recommendations on what parts I need to create this setup!

You can use a USB 3.0 KVM switch that supports at least two PC USB inputs and either two HDMI ports or a mix of HDMI and DisplayPort that can handle 144Hz. This will allow you to connect both your gaming PC and work laptop while maintaining the high refresh rate for gaming.
Actually, I realized you don’t already have a KVM in place. Be sure to get a good quality one that supports your specs, and you should be set!
Are you looking to share just video, or do you also want to connect your peripherals between the laptop and PC? If you want an all-in-one cable solution that includes power and data for your laptop, there are some USB-C KVMs that can do that. If you're okay with multiple cables, then it might be simpler to just go for separate video and USB connections.
I’d like to share peripherals too, if possible!
I'm a bit confused. So, would I connect the KVM to the monitor with DisplayPort and then link the gaming PC to the KVM via DisplayPort as well? How does the laptop fit in? Are we just using USB?
