I'm on the hunt for a solid email archiving and filing solution for a client in the construction industry. They need a way to organize emails by project since they retention period is long due to legal requirements. Users should easily file or send emails to specific project folders, especially since some projects can accumulate thousands of emails over the years. We've considered MailManager, but it doesn't support API calls, making it hard for our team to integrate it with other tools. So, I'm looking for recommendations on platforms that can meet these needs or any insights on how to approach this.

Have you looked into CloudFiler? They do support API calls, which makes integration easier. We were thinking about switching from MailManager to them, but they didn’t have a US-based data center at the time. I'm not sure if that's changed, so you might want to check their site.
I'm currently trying out MailArchiva. They provide a REST API and it seems to suit our needs pretty well. While the scripting aspect isn't a make-or-break for me, I think their offering might work for your case too.
Email isn't the best tool for project organization, honestly. There are better software solutions out there that integrate emails by project along with handling other documents too. If your client insists on using email, they could also set up local email servers specifically for archiving purposes, but that seems a bit excessive.
You might want to consider NetDocuments. They offer API support and have Outlook add-ins that can help you file emails directly into project folders. The add-in even predicts where emails should go, which can save time. Personally, I find it a decent solution that covers most of your requirements.

Totally agree, managing projects through email can get messy fast. It's better to use dedicated software!
