Upgrading from GTX 1080 Ti: What’s My Best Option Now?

Hey everyone! I've been using my GTX 1080 Ti since 2017, and I'm starting to feel the need to upgrade to something that can handle high settings and maintain high fps, especially since I have a 165Hz 1440p monitor. I'm setting a budget of £1000. Should I wait for any upcoming graphics cards, or is there a solid option available right now that will last me a few years? Thanks a lot!

For your budget, the RTX 5070 Ti is a solid choice. It often sells for around $834, so don't overpay. If ray tracing isn't a priority, consider the RX 9070 XT instead—it’s typically cheaper. You might want to wait for the rumored 9080 XT, but right now, the 5070 Ti seems like the best value option. Just make sure your system can support it—what are your current specs?

Yeah, I've read that next-gen leaks for the 9080 XT might just be hype. Who knows when it’ll actually drop?

If you're dead set on an upgrade, I just moved from a 1080 Ti to a 5070 Ti and it was a huge difference. No more tweaking settings just to play smoothly, which is a relief! Keep your expectations realistic about the performance boost based on your entire setup, though.

I'm trying to upgrade too—was thinking about a used RTX 3080. What's your take?

Honestly, I've still got my 1060 6GB and it handles most games well enough, but my i7-7700 CPU could be bottlenecking performance. You might want to consider if your current CPU needs an upgrade too if you're aiming for higher performance.

The i7-7700 is decent, but depending on what you’re playing, it could limit your GPU performance.

Don’t forget about the rest of your system when upgrading. If your CPU is from 2017, like a 7700K, it could hold back the latest GPUs. I’d suggest a Ryzen 5 7600 with the RX 9060 XT or the 5060 Ti if you’re changing the entire platform.

Right! And you might also need to consider a new power supply if you're going for a newer GPU.

If you're looking to upgrade, I recommend considering the RX 9060 XT. It’s priced under $400 and performs well for 1440p gaming. Just make sure to grab the 16GB version for better longevity!

Good tip! And if you can find a good deal on the 9070 XT, definitely go for that one. It handles newer titles with high settings much better.
