Is it a good idea to move my OS from a SATA SSD to a new NVMe SSD?

I've got a 256 GB SATA SSD that currently holds my OS, along with a 1 TB hard drive. Now, I've recently picked up a 1 TB NVMe SSD and I'm considering moving my operating system over to it. Since my SATA SSD is primarily for the OS, I'm not worried about losing data there. However, I've heard mixed advice about whether it's best to keep the OS on a separate drive, which makes me a bit hesitant. Would making this switch be beneficial, or should I stick with my SATA SSD?

The idea that you should keep the OS on a separate drive is outdated. It's actually been recommended for a long time to have the OS on the fastest available drive. In your case, moving your OS to the NVMe is the right call—no downsides for most users, just better performance!

It really won't make a noticeable difference if it’s running well from the SATA SSD. If the performance is satisfactory for your needs, you might as well stick with it for now.

Always do a fresh install when switching drives! Best way to ensure everything runs smoothly without old data or settings causing issues. I'd suggest unplugging the SATA SSD, installing Windows on the NVMe, and once it's running, you can plug the SATA back in to retrieve any files you need.

Transferring your OS to the NVMe drive will definitely give you a speed boost. If your SATA SSD is booting your OS quickly enough now, you might not notice much difference at the start, but using the NVMe as your main drive is generally a good move. If you're not in a hurry, you could just wait until your next reinstall to make the switch.

Absolutely! Your OS should be on the fastest drive you have. The NVMe is made for speed, and it'll help with loading times and overall performance. You should definitely make the move to the NVMe SSD.
