Is it worth moving my OS from a SATA SSD to a new NVMe SSD?

I currently have a 256 GB SATA SSD solely for my operating system and a 1 TB hard drive for storage. I've recently acquired a 1 TB NVMe SSD and I'm considering transferring my OS to it. Since the SATA SSD mostly only holds the OS, I wouldn't lose any files. However, I've heard some suggestions that it's better to keep the OS on a separate drive. Should I go ahead and reinstall my OS on the NVMe or stick with the SATA SSD?

If it's not bothering you, you might just keep it as is for now. The SATA SSD should be fine if it's booting quickly. You could always think about moving it during your next reinstall if you want to.

It's not really necessary to keep your OS on a separate drive; that's outdated advice. You want your OS on the fastest drive which in your case is the NVMe. Just transfer it over and you should be all set!

Yeah, I used to think that too, but having everything on the fastest drive really does make a difference.

Honestly, you probably won’t notice any huge difference. If what you have is working well for you, it's not a necessity to switch right away.

Always a good idea to start fresh! Reinstalling on the NVMe can give you the best performance. Just make sure the old drive is unplugged during the installation to avoid any hiccups.

Definitely! A clean install usually helps avoid any weird conflicts between drives.

Absolutely, your boot drive should be on the fastest option you have available. Go for it!
