I've got an old Iiyama 24-inch monitor that I've been using for 12 years, and it's just started making a weird crackling noise, almost like it's arcing. I work in tech, but I've never dealt with an issue like this before. Since the monitor has CCFL backlights, could it be that the bulb is finally giving out? The sound seems to be coming from the top back part of the monitor and not from any speakers.

Honestly, if it’s a CCFL, just think about replacing it. With prices these days, you can easily find a solid monitor for under £30 if you do some hunting online. It might be time for that long-awaited upgrade you've mentioned!
Since you're in tech, it's a bit surprising you haven't stumbled upon this before! Sounds like your monitor might be nearing the end of its life, especially with it being so old. But honestly, crackling sounds can sometimes indicate electrical issues. If it were me, I'd suggest looking into whether it's worth trying to fix. If the CCFL is indeed dying, replacing the monitor might be the smarter move. You can find decent replacements pretty cheap on eBay or even at charity shops!
It's a hassle for sure, but sometimes getting a new monitor might be the best solution. Plus, I've seen some nice 27-inch monitors for not too much if you're considering an upgrade.

Yeah, I was already kind of thinking about switching to something bigger. This could be the push I need to finally make that upgrade happen!
