Should I Get a New Laptop? Screen Flickering Issues

I'm dealing with a frustrating issue on my Dell Latitude 7480 where the screen constantly flickers. Sometimes it gets so bad that the screen shows just backlight with no display at all, even when I connect it to a TV. The odd part is that if I leave it alone for a period—anywhere from 2 weeks to 3 months—it eventually starts working again. I'm really torn about whether I should just replace the laptop at this point. Has anyone experienced something similar?

It definitely sounds like it's nearing the end of its lifespan. Have you considered doing a clean install of Windows 11? Sometimes that can resolve odd issues like this. Just make sure you back up your data first!

I actually tried a clean install, but it didn't help.

I think it might be hardware related, especially since it works again after a long downtime. If the flickering gets worse, it might be time to consider a new laptop. Dell's been known to have some display issues in older models, so it could be worth looking into that too.

That sounds really annoying! Sometimes the connectors inside can get loose, which would cause the flickering. If you're comfortable, you could open it up and check the display connections, or even take it to a repair shop. But if it keeps happening, you should definitely think about upgrading.
