Should I Buy the Asus RTX 5080 Prime OC Now or Wait for the Super?

Hey everyone! I'm in a bit of a dilemma regarding my graphics card upgrade. Currently, I'm still using my old Asus GTX 1080 TI ROG, and I'm considering buying the RTX 5080. I was initially holding out for the Creator (ProArt) version to match my whole build, but the wait seems never-ending and I worry it'll just become outdated by the time it arrives. The RTX 5080 is already about six months old, and I'm concerned about its price justifying the purchase if the Creator version is still delayed. My main interest in waiting for the 'Super' variant is for the increased VRAM, but I'm apprehensive about potential price hikes and delays due to supply issues that often come up. I'm just a casual user who plays games like Red Alert 2 and Space Marine 2 on a 4K 120Hz monitor. What do you all think?

I can't predict the future, but maybe waiting for the Super would let you snag the 5080 at a lower price or even get a model better than the 4090. Just a thought!

The RTX 5080 isn't the best value right now, considering it costs around $1300 and only provides about a 10% boost over the 5070 TI. You might want to hold off and see how the Super variants perform. If you need something now, the 5070 TI is a good option if you’re into ray tracing. Otherwise, check out the 9070 XT for better value.

Thanks for the info! The 5070 TI sounds good for what I need.

The 5080 overclocks well and can play around the stock 4090 level, though!

Honestly, if you're not playing super demanding games, the RTX 5080 should serve you well for quite a while. It’s a solid upgrade from what you currently have and should handle your gaming needs with no problem.

I usually upgrade every other generation and don’t stress over the 'super' or 'ti' models. I grab the 80 series about six months post-launch and call it a day. No point overthinking it!

I get that! I’m just set on getting the Asus Prime since the Astral model won’t fit my case. But paying a premium feels wrong for what you get.

Totally hear you on that. Prices are just crazy!

Any idea when the 5080 Super is set to release? I'm in a similar boat here.

It’s expected sometime in early 2026. Hang tight!

The premium you pay for the 5080 over a 5070 TI isn't justified, especially since both have the same VRAM. Consider what you really need and if it’s worth it.

I’ve been thinking the same. Thanks!
