What are the best ways to secure my 2015 MacBook while traveling?

I'm planning a trip and I want to take my personal computer, a 2015 MacBook running Monterey 12.7.6, because I need Lightroom for work. However, I'm concerned about the security of my device if it gets stolen. How easy is it for someone to hack into it if they have physical access? Are there specific security measures I should take? I currently have it set to require a password one minute after the screensaver starts, but that's about all I know regarding safeguards.

It might help to rephrase your question a bit to focus more on securing your MacBook rather than on the hacking aspect. It seems like you're looking for ways to safeguard your device, which is great!

Thanks for the tip! I'm definitely more interested in securing it than anything else.

It's actually pretty unlikely that someone could hack into your MacBook if you stay on top of locking it whenever you're away from it. A good move would be to turn on FileVault in your settings to encrypt your hard drive and make sure to shut it down completely when you're not using it. That way, your data stays secure until you log back in.

Thanks for that suggestion! I usually just close the screen, but I’ll start shutting it down now.

Honestly, you're probably fine. Just make sure to always keep it locked when you step away from it.
