Is the Ryzen 7 7800X3D Worth the Extra 200 Euros Over the 7700X?

Hey everyone! I'm looking to upgrade my CPU after quite a few years away from PC parts. I'm set on getting a Ryzen 7 7800X3D, but I just noticed that the 7700X is priced 200 euros cheaper (500 vs 300).

I game at 1440p with a refresh rate around 165hz (can push to 185) using a 3060 Ti, and I loved my old i5 8600K. Beyond gaming, I do a lot of heavy Lightroom editing and want to start using Photoshop more often. A tool called Perplexiti AI mentioned that the 7700X might even perform slightly better in Lightroom due to its higher base clocks.

I'm also considering which CPU will last longer and pair better with my planned GPU upgrade next year (probably to a 4070 or 4070 Ti). So, should I spend the extra 200 euros on the 7800X3D now and maybe get some more RAM later (it's relatively cheap), or would it make more sense to save the cash and go for the 7700X? Right now, I've got a decent setup with 32GB of 6000Mhz CL30 RAM. I haven't upgraded my PC in 7 years, so I'm pretty excited about this!

If you're mainly playing games like Siege or Apex, the 7800X3D might not justify the price difference right now since your 3060 Ti could bottleneck performance. The 7700X would be plenty for your current gaming experience, and once you upgrade your GPU, the X3D could show more of its strengths. The 200 euros seems steep considering you won't see much difference in non-gaming tasks either, so I'd lean towards saving that cash!

I agree! Plus, you might want to spend that extra cash on a better GPU when you upgrade. It seems like the better investment long-term.

Just a heads up about cooling if you opt for the 7800X3D—those CPUs tend to run hot, so make sure you have a solid cooler ready. If you're doing workloads beyond gaming, the 7700X should serve you well without needing that pricier cooling solution. Plus, it seems like a smarter choice while you're still on the 3060 Ti.

Exactly! The 7700X is a solid choice for now, especially if you're working on editing. You can always revisit the 7800X3D later when you’ve upgraded your GPU.
