Is Dual Booting Linux Mint with Windows 10 a Good Idea?

I'm thinking about installing Linux Mint alongside Windows 10 on my personal Aspire 315-42 laptop, which has 500 GB of storage. I want to test Linux Mint to see how it performs without losing my Windows setup. Is this a smart move for the long term?

Before diving in, it's crucial to back up your current system. If you have an external USB drive, consider using Clonezilla to create an image of your existing setup. If something goes wrong or you change your mind, you can easily restore everything back to how it was. Once that’s done, shrink your Windows partitions to free up space for Linux, then boot from a live thumb drive to install alongside. If you're just looking to explore Linux basics, you might also just run it from a USB stick, but remember, changes won’t be saved unless you set it up to be persistent.

It might hold you back a bit since you'd be limited to about 250 GB for each OS. But yeah, you can definitely make it work!

You could allocate around 100 GB for Linux, but honestly, even 50 GB would work just fine. It's all about how you plan to use it!
