I'm having a frustrating issue with my internet connection at home. My laptop can hit a download speed of 278.22 Mbps, but my desktop PC only manages a measly 1.2 Mbps. Both devices are in the same room, so I'm not sure why there's such a big difference. Any ideas on how to fix this?

It sounds like your desktop's Wi-Fi might be stuck on the 2.4 GHz band or is experiencing some interference. Here are a few things to try:
* Switch to the 5 GHz band in your PC's network settings.
* Make sure to update your wireless drivers and router firmware.
* Move the USB or Wi-Fi dongle away from USB 3.0 ports as they can cause interference.
* If you connect with a wired Ethernet cable and notice a speed increase, it's likely an issue with the Wi-Fi card.
* Consider upgrading to a USB Wi-Fi 6 adapter or a PCIe card for better performance.
Thanks for the suggestions! I suspect it might be the Wi-Fi card since I'm using an Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265. Do you think that's outdated?
By the way, if you're using a desktop, make sure the antennas are connected to the rear of the PC. Sometimes those little things can make a big difference!
Glad you're trying the 5 GHz option! It's a step in the right direction. If you're still getting less than 20 Mbps, you might need to consider an upgrade.
