What’s the best way to upgrade my 10-year-old PC?

I built my PC around a decade ago, and even though I mostly game on my PlayStation these days, I want to play some PC games that my setup can't handle anymore. I'm hoping to run games at 1440p and 60fps without breaking the bank. Right now, I'm into Total War games, but I'm stuck playing Warhammer 3 on pretty low settings. Here's what I currently have: CPU - i5 4690k, Motherboard - Asus z970, GPU - GTX 1070, RAM - 8GB DDR3, PSU - 650W, and 1TB SSD for storage. What are my upgrade options?

I’d recommend a motherboard, CPU, and RAM combo deal. You can stick with your old GPU and case for now. Just keep in mind that your PSU is really old, so you might want to upgrade that as well.

Upgrading to a whole new system would be the way to go. You'll need a new CPU, motherboard, and RAM to really see a performance boost. You could keep your GTX 1070 for a bit, but be aware that driver support might be phasing out soon. Eventually, switching to M.2 drives would also help speed things up!

Honestly, you might be better off starting fresh instead of upgrading. You’d likely need to replace most components anyway, but you could probably reuse your case if it's still in good shape. That way, you won't run into compatibility issues later on.

Your PC is definitely showing its age for upgrades. If it's a custom build, I suggest pulling everything out and going for a combo deal for RAM, CPU, and motherboard. Places like Microcenter have great options, and you can probably find good deals online too.

Consider getting a Ryzen 5 9600X paired with a 9060XT GPU. That combo should serve you well and keep you relatively ready for future games without emptying your wallet.
