I've been experiencing an unbearable coil whine from my newly upgraded Sapphire Pulse 9070 XT, especially during intense gaming sessions like playing The Finals and Helldivers 2 where I try to maintain settings similar to what I had on my RTX 3070 at around 70-90 fps at 1440p. It's frustrating because the coil whine is so loud that it's impacting my gaming experience. Here's the situation:
- The whine is constant during gameplay, but when I ran stress tests like FurMark, there was no coil whine at all.
- I've tried various settings, including stock settings, reducing power limits, and undervolting, but the issue persists.
- I did a clean driver installation with DDU when switching from my RTX 3070, and I'm using dedicated PCIE cables for power, not daisy-chained.
For context, my build includes:
- Ryzen 5700x (undervolted)
- Corsair 16GB 3200 RAM
- B350 Asus Strix F Gaming motherboard
- Corsair RMi 650W PSU
I know my PSU is below the recommended 750W for this card, but I calculated that I shouldn't be anywhere near its limit. Do you think upgrading the power supply would resolve the coil whine, or is it more likely I need to look into another graphics card? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Are you sure it's the GPU causing the noise? Your PSU might be maxed out. The 9070 XT typically draws about 300-350W at peak, so while a 750W PSU is often recommended, it really should be enough if your system isn't overloaded. Still, it's worth considering that your PSU might be working too close to its limits.
Wow, that’s some serious misinformation going around. Your peaks definitely do not hit that high!
Coil whine can be quite tricky. It usually stems from the interaction between your home power supply, the GPU, and the PSU itself. Changing up any one of those factors might help reduce or eliminate the noise.
If you're convinced that the coil whine is coming from the GPU and not the PSU, you might want to consider an RMA to get it replaced. Sometimes, it's just a defective unit causing the issue.
That’s not quite accurate. The 9070 XT doesn’t draw 1000W; it rarely goes beyond 400W-500W. If it were drawing that much, your PSU would shut down to avoid damage. So I don't think that's the cause of the coil whine here.
