Should I Use Freesync with My 180Hz Monitor?

I have an AMD 6700XT graphics card and a 180Hz monitor that supports Freesync. I'm not very familiar with Freesync, except that it allows for dynamic refresh rates based on the GPU's output. My initial thought is to just set the monitor to 180Hz, enable V-Sync, and turn off Freesync to keep things simple. Are there any real benefits to using Freesync in my situation? I mainly use this monitor for gaming, so I don't really worry about framerate mismatches.

Freesync is really useful because it adjusts your monitor's refresh rate to match your GPU's FPS output if it's below the maximum refresh rate. So, if you're not consistently hitting 180 FPS in games, Freesync should provide a smoother experience compared to just using V-Sync.

Yeah, even if your FPS is above 180 most of the time, having Freesync on can help cover those rare drops, ensuring you don’t get tearing.

You should definitely try gaming with Freesync on and then off. See which feels better to you. If there's no noticeable difference in your experience, then either way is fine. But Freesync shines in situations where your FPS dips below your monitor's refresh rate.

Freesync only kicks in when your FPS is below the max refresh rate. If you stay at or above 180 FPS, it won’t make a difference. But having it on will help prevent screen tearing when you do drop below 180 FPS, which is why it’s usually recommended to leave it enabled. Check out some guides online for more details.

Thanks for clarifying! If it doesn’t hurt anything and could help, then keeping it on seems like the way to go.
