I'm considering upgrading to an RTX 3080 to pair with my Intel i5-10850K. I've been gaming a lot on retro titles but now I want to dive into some ray-traced games like Doom: Dark Ages, Control, Metro Exodus, and I still need to finish Cyberpunk and RDR2. I currently have a GTX 1660 Super and I'm wondering if the RTX 3080 will be sufficient for gaming at 1920x1440 resolution with a refresh rate of 75Hz. Should I hold out for something like a 4070 Super instead?

I run my RTX 3080 on a 32-inch 1440p monitor at 144Hz, and it works great! But just a heads up, some games like Ark Survival Ascended can be demanding, so you might need to lower the resolution in certain situations.

Exactly! I had to drop down to 1080p for Ark due to performance issues, but for most other games, the 3080 keeps up really well.

Yeah, the RTX 3080 should handle 1920x1440 just fine, especially for ray tracing in most games. It's a solid 1440p card, so you'll get good performance without any real issues for most titles.

Just keep in mind, if you plan on using ray tracing, the newer 4070 series could give you better performance with more VRAM and frame generation features.

Make sure to consider the VRAM; the 10GB version can be limiting. If you can find a 12GB model, that would be even better, especially for gaming at higher resolutions. I've been able to max out nearly any game on my 10GB version, but I’m on a 1080p monitor.
