Trouble with Approving App Purchases on a Single Apple Device

Hey everyone,

I recently bought my child an iPad, which is the only Apple device we have. We set up a kids profile under my wife's new iCloud account and activated the 'Ask to Purchase' feature. However, we're not receiving any notifications for purchase requests since we only have this one Apple device.

When I check the settings under my wife's account, I can see the request. But when I hit approve, it asks for my child's iCloud password. I enter the password, but nothing seems to happen, and it just asks for permission again in the App Store. Is this a bug, or is there a specific way to approve the purchases? Do I really need another Apple device to make this work?

It sounds like you're experiencing a glitch with the notifications. If you're the family organizer or a parent/guardian, you should be able to approve requests from any Apple device you have access to. However, it seems like the current setup isn't working as intended. If the notification issue continues, Apple might suggest having another device to approve requests more easily. It would be ideal if it worked seamlessly on just one device, but family sharing can be a bit wonky sometimes.

Yeah, it seems that having another device would save you some headaches! But I'm no expert on parental controls or family sharing. Just curious to see how this all works out for you!
