Trouble with My GeForce RTX 4080 FE: Black Screens and More

I've been using my GeForce RTX 4080 Founders Edition for about six months now, and I'm running into a lot of frustrating issues. I've already swapped out my motherboard, CPU, and RAM, so I think the problem might be the GPU itself.

I'm experiencing random black screens where my PC freezes up completely, and the only way to get it to work again is by doing a hard reset. After rebooting, I often find a bunch of nvlddmkm errors in the log. I've tried a bunch of fixes I found online—like DDU, rolling back drivers, and even reinstalling Windows—but nothing seems to work.

Another weird thing is that sometimes after rebooting, one of the fans on the GPU stops working, though reseating the card seemed to help temporarily. I got the card used from hardware swap, and it's out of warranty, so Nvidia's support was pretty unhelpful and just gave me basic tips.

Interestingly, when I render projects in Unreal Engine, things seem to run smoothly without any black screens, but sometimes the issues crop up completely at random. The GPU temps look good, and my power supply should be more than adequate. I'm really stumped and would appreciate any insights or advice you guys might have.

Have you checked how hot the GPU gets while you're gaming or rendering? Sometimes overheating can cause these kinds of issues.

Yes, I usually monitor temperatures, and they're around 70°C, with peaks at 78°C when I'm playing Cyberpunk with path tracing.

Which drivers have you been using? I've heard the latest Nvidia drivers for the 50 series have been pretty unstable lately.

I read about that too. Right now, I'm on the studio driver version 576.80. I did try a driver from November 2024, but the same issues popped up again.
