Considering an Upgrade for My PC – What Should I Change?

Hey everyone! I built my first PC in 2021 during the pandemic, and I've noticed it's starting to lag while I'm playing Maplestory, especially in those crowded monster maps. I'm thinking it's about time for some upgrades since I'm experiencing lag and stuttering.

I'm considering switching out my motherboard to support DDR5 RAM and to get a better processor, but I'm not sure if that's the best move in terms of value for my money. I'd really appreciate some advice from those who are more experienced!

Here are my current specs:
- Motherboard: B450M Steel Legend
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600
- SSD: ADATA 1TB
- GPU: Nvidia RTX 3060
- RAM: Corsair 32GB DDR4-3200
- PSU: Superflower 650W Gold
- Case: Mid Tower mATX

Thanks in advance for any suggestions! 🙂

If you're lagging in a low-demand game like Maplestory, there might be other issues at play. Your setup should easily handle 60fps at FHD, considering the game is from the early 2000s. Maybe try repairing the game installation or checking your internet connection.

As for upgrades, I agree with getting an AM5 motherboard with something like a 7600X3D for better futureproofing.

Thanks for the input! I've been reading, and it seems like it could be my CPU or maybe even a memory leak in Maplestory. Upgrading can't hurt, right? I'm also eyeing a monitor upgrade to 1440P, so that futureproofing idea sounds solid! Any recommendations for an AM5 motherboard?

You might want to consider getting a 5700X3D and a 9060 XT 16GB for around $650. Keeping your current parts would save you some money, and the 5700X3D should give you performance similar to a 7600X, which could help with your lag issue.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll look into those options. By the way, do you think I need to replace my AIO cooler if I upgrade to the 5700X3D? It's been in use for about 4 years, and my CPU temps average around 50C.
