Hey everyone! I've got an HP Spectre x360 - 13-ap0011nb Elite Dragonfly with an i7-8565U processor and 16 GB of RAM. Since last Friday, I've noticed a strange issue: when I shut down my laptop from the start menu, the fan kicks into high gear and runs full blast, but it's totally quiet when the computer is on. This is a major hassle because it drains my battery overnight and I can't even pack it away properly. This all started after a couple of updates and using a faulty HDMI to UTP adapter that sent 12VDC instead of 5VDC, which caused my laptop to turn off abruptly before the updates installed. I've tried several fixes like disabling fast startup, uninstalling updates, hard resetting, and resetting BIOS settings, but nothing works. After booting up, the CPU is quite hot at 72°C, and it cools down to around 52°C when running normally. I'm at my wits' end and would really appreciate any suggestions on what else I can try!

I think it's strange that your CPU is running so hot after shutdown. It might be worth monitoring background processes to see if anything is still running when you think the laptop is off. It sounds to me like shutting down isn't entirely completing. Maybe try disabling some services or programs that could be causing this?
Have you checked if Windows Hello facial recognition is active? That caused some issues for me. Sometimes, my laptop goes to the lock screen instead of sleep, cranking the fan up due to the CPU working overtime. Just a thought!
Thanks for the suggestion! But no, I don't use facial recognition. This issue only happens when I shut down, not during sleep or standby.
