I recently changed my login password through the settings in the login window, and it works fine when I enter it for terminal commands or downloads in Software Manager. However, when I try to log in after shutting down my computer, I get an 'incorrect password' message. Even after multiple attempts, I sometimes get a popup asking for my password again, but it still says it's incorrect. Did I change my password correctly, or is there something more I should be doing?

It sounds like you might have changed the root password instead of your user password. How exactly did you go about changing it? It's possible the two passwords are different now.
A simple way to check is to try logging in with your old password at the user login screen. If that works, then that's likely the case!
