Hey everyone! I'm looking for some advice on how to break into the world of DevOps. I've been in IT for over eight years, mostly focusing on IT management and support roles. I've always enjoyed interacting with users, but recently I've felt like I'm ready for a change and want to expand my skill set. I'm considering pursuing some AWS or Microsoft certifications to get more familiar with the terminology and maybe even setting up a home lab to experiment with different tools. What skills should I focus on? Where do you think I should start? I appreciate any suggestions!

You're not starting from zero! I suggest building a home lab or using cloud services like DigitalOcean to set up some servers. It's also crucial to enhance your skills in Linux, scripting, and then delve into Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, and containers. For a clearer path, check out roadmap.sh/devops and devops-daily.com/roadmap to identify what skills you might need to learn.
Since you're in management, you might already have access to advanced certification exams. A lot of my friends have pursued AWS certifications, especially the Solutions Architect and DevOps Engineer ones. Those are both valuable in the market.
A good starting point would be to consider finding a mentor who's knowledgeable about the job market in your area. They can guide you through the skills that are in demand. Also, you might want to check out ChatGPT for a personalized career path recommendation.
Makes sense. Thanks!
