Should I Upgrade to i3 12100F or Save for i5 12400F?

I'm currently using an i3 10100 with an Arc A750 and 16GB of 3200MHz RAM. I'm considering moving to an LGA1700 socket and getting the i3 12100F as a temporary upgrade, but I've heard that it might be a bottleneck for the Arc A750 since it performs better with newer CPUs. Should I just go ahead with this plan, or would it be wiser to save for the i5 12400F instead? I mainly play games like Rust, GTA, Valorant, Fortnite, Call of Duty, and Rainbow Six. Thanks for any advice!

Honestly, neither of your current options are ideal for that GPU. It's not just about the age; the CPU speed matters a lot too.

The math for getting the 12100F then later upgrading to a better CPU doesn't really make sense. You'd end up spending $75 on the 12100F and then $110 on a 12400F, when you could just save a bit more and get a 12700K or 14600K for around $165. But if you want to go straight for the budget option, the 12400F is solid.

It’s because I’m building my brother a PC as well, so I can swap out parts I won't need.

I recommend saving for a bigger upgrade than what you're thinking. If you really have to choose one, go for the i5 12400F. At least you can still use your current RAM with that upgrade.
