Is It Worth Upgrading from 9800X3D to 9950X3D?

I've been wondering if I can just turn off my PC and swap my 9800X3D for a 9950X3D. I have an X870E Carbon motherboard and a Thermalright Frozen Edge 240 cooler. My BIOS is updated, but I want to know if there's anything specific I need to do for the swap. Has anyone done this recently and can share their experience?

I was curious about this too! If you're looking for resources on the chipset driver or how to handle the swap properly, I can help you out. Just transitioned from a 7800X3D to the 9950X3D myself, and I wasn't aware of the necessary steps either.

You can upgrade, but honestly, I question why you'd want to. Unless you’re using your PC for demanding productivity tasks like video editing or CAD work, you probably won’t see much benefit from the upgrade. For gaming, the performance boost is minimal—just about 5% better in some scenarios. It might not be worth the expense for most gamers.

Yes, you can definitely swap the CPUs! Just make sure to reinstall the AMD chipset driver afterward. The X3D v-cache optimizer service doesn't need to run with the 9800X3D, but it does for the 9950X3D, so keep an eye on that after the upgrade.
