Help with Error 153 on Startup – Black Screen Issues

Hey everyone, I'm having a frustrating issue with my computer. When I boot up, both of my screens go black, and I often end up having to wait a while or even reset the computer to finally get access. Once I do, I receive a hardware error relating to something called livekernetevent 117. In the event viewer, there's an error message showing 'The description for event ID 153 in the source nvlddmkm could not be found,' which suggests that either the relevant component isn't installed correctly or it's got some corruption. It also mentions a specific device, which is \Device\Video3, and indicates there's been a restart TDR on GPUID:100. I used to experience this with the Nvidia drivers 576, so I rolled back to 566.36, but just recently gave 576.88 another shot, only to run into the same black screen today. The weird thing is, this issue only pops up at startup and never during gaming or while using my computer normally. My setup has two DisplayPort screens—a 1080p 144Hz and a 2k 144Hz—and I'm wondering if they might be contributing to this glitch. I've filled out a report on Nvidia's Google doc for feedback. For context, I'm running a 4080 super on Windows 10. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried turning off the fast boot feature? Sometimes that can cause these issues. Also, have you thought about unplugging one of your monitors and then booting up? It might help identify if one of them is causing the problem.

I encountered a similar issue before, and turning off fast boot really helped me out. If you’ve already got that disabled, try unplugging one monitor like the other user suggested when you reinstall the latest driver. These problems can pop up randomly, so it might take a few tries to pinpoint what's going on.
