How Can I Convert My Drive from MBR to GPT When It Fails?

I'm trying to convert my drive from MBR to GPT to upgrade to Windows 11, but I'm hitting a roadblock. When I validate the disk, I get an error: "Disk layout validation failed for disk 2," with a note saying there are too many MBR partitions and no space to create an EFI system partition. Currently, my drive has four partitions: Partition 1 (700 MB), Partition 2 (929 GB), Partition 3 (528 MB recovery), and Partition 4 (341 MB recovery). I suspect I need to delete one of the recovery partitions, but I'm unsure which one to choose. I've also checked the recovery environment status and confirmed it's enabled. Any guidance on which recovery partition I can safely delete would be appreciated!

Honestly, if you're facing this issue, a safer route might be to back up your data and perform a clean install of Windows 11. If you’ve been using MBR for a while, your system might be cluttered. A fresh start can sometimes save a lot of headaches!

I haven't done past upgrades; this would be my first. My system isn't slow or cluttered.

From my experience with MBR2GPT, you might actually need to delete both recovery partitions. They aren't essential if you can access recovery options through a Windows installation medium. Plus, you can recreate a recovery partition post-conversion if necessary. It’s common to need to clear those out to complete the transition.

Did you need to disable Windows RE before deleting them?
