Has Apple Changed? A Frustrating Experience with a Fake Charger

I'm reaching out to share a disappointing experience my 74-year-old mother had with Apple and to seek advice from the community. She recently bought a phone, charger, and headphones from the official Apple store in Milan. However, after just a week of use, the phone stopped charging, and we discovered that the charging unit was faulty. When we approached the official Apple store in Düsseldorf to claim warranty service, they informed us that the charger was fake and refused to exchange it. What really frustrated me was their lack of concern about how fake products could be sold at an official store. What steps can we take in this situation to resolve the issue?

To get to the bottom of this, ask your mom how she received her receipt. I’ve been to that store, and I got my receipt sent through email too, so that checks out. But if she doesn't have that, it might complicate things further.

She does have the email receipt. I just wish there was more clarity on the store's end regarding their products.

I don't mean to offend, but are you certain she went to a real Apple Store? They don't deal in open box or refurbished stuff, so if there was a fake unit involved, that's a big red flag. Have you checked the receipt? What email did that come from?

Yes, the receipt was emailed to her. It seems legitimate, but this whole situation is just overwhelming!

It's tough when you face these issues across borders. I recommend calling Apple Support with the serial number of the charger. They can often figure things out and might set up a part replacement right away. Just make sure to have that email receipt handy when you call!

I'm on it! I called and now just waiting for a response. The staff at the store made it sound like my mom was lying, which just feels so unfair.

Apple's retail stores only sell factory-sealed items. If your mother received a defective charger, it's possible it wasn't the original one sold. Make sure to clarify that she indeed bought it at a proper Apple Store and not a third-party seller; that could explain the confusion about the charger being fake.

She definitely bought it at the official store. Here’s the address: Apple Piazza Liberty in Milan. They even sent her the receipt via email.

I get where you're coming from, but it could still be a misunderstanding. It's worth double-checking how your mom remembers the purchase.
