Hey everyone! I came across an older thread on this topic, but it's been about five years since then, so I'm looking for some fresh recommendations. What laptops do you think are the best for someone working as a Linux sysadmin? I'd love to hear your thoughts on hardware that's easy to run different Linux distributions on and any experiences you've had!

If you’re looking for something a bit different, I’d suggest the Framework Laptop. It’s super customizable and light, plus it's repairable without too much hassle. I've been using it for about a year, and it fits my needs well. I’m even considering the next model upgrade soon!

System76 is another option, especially if you want a laptop designed for Linux right from the start. I've been really happy with mine. They offer great support and the ability to easily upgrade hardware if you need to later on!
Many folks love the Lenovo X1 Carbon for running Linux. I've been using it for years with various distros like Debian and Fedora, and it’s always performed well. It’s light, making it easy to work in tight spaces, and packs enough power to handle local servers and VMs. Though, I’d say the display isn't the best, but it’s still a solid choice overall!

I’ve had great luck with Dell laptops, especially the Latitude series. They’ve been very Linux-friendly and solid performers. I recently updated the firmware on my Latitude 7420 via fwupd, and it runs like a dream!
Another vote for the MacBook Air with M1 or M2 chips if you’re okay with MacOS. I’ve used it primarily for remote SSH access, and it’s been a trooper. Plus, the battery life is incredible, lasting all day for me.
