I'm having a frustrating problem with my brother's laptop. He and his friend have identical specs, but his friend's HP laptop outperforms my brother's Asus by a wide margin. My brother's laptop only gets around 20 FPS in the RDR2 menu, while his friend gets 30-40 FPS in the game itself. I've tried several fixes, but nothing seems to work. Any ideas on what could be causing this performance issue?

First thing to check is overheating. If his laptop is getting too hot, that could throttle performance. It might also be worth seeing if air vents are clogged, or maybe consider reapplying thermal paste if you're comfortable with that.
Let’s break it down:
1. Restart it if it hasn’t been done in a while.
2. Make sure Windows and drivers are fully updated.
3. Use compressed air to clean out the vents.
4. Inspect startup programs and run a virus check, ensuring he has sufficient free disk space.
5. Run diagnostics from the BIOS to see if there are any memory or disk problems.
Let me know what you find after this, and we can dig deeper if needed!
1. Restarting isn't the issue.
2. It's fully updated.
3. I'll get on cleaning it.
4. Startup has very few programs, and scans showed nothing.
5. I’ll try the diagnostics.
Thanks for the suggestion, but overheating isn't the issue.
