Can a 2014 Mac Mini Run iMovie Smoothly for Video Editing?

I'm considering buying a 2014 Mac Mini that has been upgraded with more RAM and an SSD. It currently runs macOS Catalina, and I'm hoping to use iMovie for editing my travel vlogs more efficiently. I've been struggling with my old laptop and Davinci Resolve. Before I make the purchase, I want to know if this Mac Mini will handle iMovie well and if it can sync with my iCloud photos. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

While there’s no solid guarantee, Catalina should work just fine with iCloud Photos. The Mac Mini should handle 1080p editing without too much trouble.

Brilliant! Thanks for the reassurance!

If you've never downloaded iMovie on a Mac, you'll need to check if it's available in your purchased apps on your Apple account, since Catalina won't let you download it directly from the App Store. Just remember, while it might work for a bit, you’re dealing with an 11-year-old machine, so don't expect it to run super smoothly for long. It could manage basic editing, but don't set your hopes too high!

Thanks so much for clarifying! I've used iMovie on my iPhone and iPad, but never on a Mac. Will that be a problem?
