I have the Gigabyte B650 Eagle AX motherboard and I'm looking to add a second NVMe drive. Currently, I have one installed in the top slot. There are two additional slots available, but they have these little plastic pieces in the middle that seem like they might be blocking access. Is it possible to install another NVMe drive in these slots? Apologies if this sounds like a silly question!

You can absolutely add another NVMe drive! Those little plastic things you're seeing are actually heatsinks. Just remove them and then take off the plastic cover from the thermal pad, and you'll be set to install your drive.
Yes, you can install another drive. Those plastic pieces are locking mechanisms for the NVMe drives. If you're using a standard 2280 NVMe, you'll need to unscrew the plastic piece and move it to the next hole to secure the new drive. If you have the motherboard manual, it should help, though I've heard it doesn't always include clear instructions on this.
Check out the specifications for your board. The little posts you're seeing are designed for toolless retention. If they block one slot, then the far position is likely for a 2280 drive. You might want to glance at the manual or the Gigabyte site for a detailed overview.
