I'm in the process of building a new PC and I'm torn between using the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D or the Intel Core Ultra 7 265K. My primary focus is gaming and I plan to pair either of these CPUs with an RTX 5070. While I've heard that the 9800X3D excels in gaming performance, I've also noticed it lags behind in productivity benchmarks. I do some occasional video editing and use Microsoft Office for schoolwork. If I were to choose the Core Ultra 7 265K, how much FPS could I expect to lose in games like BeamNG Drive compared to the 9800X3D?

Microsoft Office is super light on CPU usage for most users. How much video editing do you actually do in a week? That could influence your decision.
If gaming is your priority, definitely choose the 9800X3D. The Core Ultra 7 might handle some productivity tasks better, but you’d sacrifice around 20% in average game frames if you switched to it. For a good balance between gaming and productivity, consider the 14700K instead.
Does the 9800X3D handle gaming while streaming at 1080p and with background apps like Spotify and Discord? I want to know about real-world performance too!
Since your main use is gaming, I'd recommend going with the 9800X3D. Unless you're heavily invested in content creation, you probably won't notice any significant differences in productivity tasks.
I’m using an older i7-6700k for video projects, and it takes me about 30-60 minutes to edit. I’m also weighing the 9800X3D against the 9950X3D for my next build.
