What’s the Best Way to Clean My Laptop’s RAM Socket?

I'm having some trouble with my Acer Nitro 5 (AN515-54EG) where it sometimes fails to boot properly. I suspect the RAM sockets might be dirty. I've primarily used the upper socket for a long time, but I want to give the bottom one a shot since it looks pretty grimy. Can anyone suggest the best way to clean these RAM sockets? What tools or techniques should I use? Thanks in advance!

It’s strange for RAM sockets in a laptop to get dirty, but it does happen. For cleaning, I'd recommend using compressed air to blow out any dust. You can also use isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab—just ensure you let the alcohol evaporate completely, and check that there are no leftover cotton fibers. For the RAM sticks themselves, gently rubbing the contacts with a pencil eraser can help clean them up too.

Totally agree with this! I also use lint-free wipes for extra precaution. No lint left behind! Definitely give the compressed air a try!

It’s not super common for sockets to get dirty since RAM typically isn't swapped out often. But if you're having issues, it might be worth looking into other factors too. Maybe run some diagnostics on your RAM before cleaning.
