Do We Really Need a Windows Domain or Entra for Our Small Office?

I'm looking for some insights on whether setting up a Windows domain or subscribing to Entra is really necessary for our small office setup. We have about 10 users in a workgroup with simple office tasks primarily involving spreadsheets, Word, PDFs, and QuickBooks. Right now, each employee logs into their work PCs with local accounts, and we have a Windows 10 desktop acting as a server with shared folders and backups. Everything seems to be running smoothly—automatic updates, BitLocker for security, and monthly remote checks. However, I'm concerned about potential security vulnerabilities and whether moving to a domain setup would offer significant benefits. Can anyone explain the specific advantages of switching to a domain or Entra and if it's worth the investment? Appreciate any advice!

If you're considering Entra, it's worth exploring Intune and Microsoft 365, which provide a comprehensive suite for your office. The Business Premium package offers office apps, cloud storage, and enhanced security features at a reasonable price per user. Entra also helps streamline management, allowing you to push settings to all devices easily, increasing your security posture against risks like ransomware. Plus, if a computer fails, users can quickly get back on track with minimal downtime. Overall, it could save you time and headaches in the long run!

Totally agree! The value you get from the package is incredible. Don't skimp on the premium version; it's really worth it!

Exactly! Once you're set up with Entra, managing everything will be a breeze.

Ultimately, it comes down to how quickly your company is expected to grow. 10 PCs aren't many now, but if you find yourselves expanding unexpectedly, Entra can help you scale up efficiently. You'll have better user management, device security, and not have to worry about server maintenance. Plus, you gain access to Azure services, making it easier to manage your workflows and data as you grow.

Your current setup works fine now, but consider what happens if a user accidentally clicks a malicious link. Ransomware can hit hard, and Entra would help protect against that. Using Microsoft 365 Business Premium not only gives you better backups but also implements Multi-Factor Authentication across the board, which is crucial these days. You really need to think about security as you grow.

Sticking to local accounts might not be the safest route. If users can accidentally delete files, you might risk losing critical data. Entra could provide centralized management that ensures better security protocols and data recovery strategies in case something goes wrong. If it’s working for now, you might not need to rush, but just keep in mind the risks as your company grows.

Right! You do have a backup system, but if a disgruntled employee leaves and erases important files, you could be in a sticky situation. I'd definitely consider a more structured approach.
