Is the 7800x3d and Radeon RX 9060 XT a good combo for my first PC build?

I'm gearing up to build my first PC and I'm considering pairing AMD's 7800x3d CPU with a Radeon RX 9060 XT GPU. However, my friends keep saying that this setup is extreme overkill and may even put too much strain on my power supply. I have a 1000-watt power supply, and I'm mainly planning to use the PC for gaming, with some basic tasks on the side. Am I making a mistake with this choice?

You're right to check on your power supply! With 1000 watts, you're in a safe zone power-wise. That said, the 7800x3d is definitely more power than what you might need, especially if you're mostly playing esports games or lower-res titles. If you’re into AAA games at higher resolutions like 1440p, the combo can still work, but you might want to consider a cheaper CPU to save for a better GPU that can match the performance. Just figure out what type of games you'll be playing!

Yeah, I totally agree with that! It’s often better to invest in a stronger GPU than overkill on the CPU if you game at lower settings.

Honestly, I think it would work well, but it really depends on your gaming habits. I’d suggest going for the 7600X; that way, you could channel more funds towards a beefier GPU. You'll get better value without needing the extra power from that high-end CPU!

Your components will pull the power they need, so the 1000 watts should be plenty. Still, if money is tight, scale back on the CPU and invest in the GPU instead. The 7800x3d is great, but not necessary for mid-range gaming!

Exactly! You’ll really want to maximize the balance between the CPU and GPU for your budget.

There's no risk of burning out your power supply unless it's a really bad quality one. The 7800x3d is a bit high-end for the 9060 XT since you won't utilize its full potential. For casual gaming, a 7600X or even a 9600X along with a better GPU would be a smarter way to go. Plus, upgrading the GPU instead would benefit most games!

Exactly! If you scale back the CPU, you'd have leftover funds to snag a stronger graphics card, which will help performance significantly.
