Hey everyone! I'm planning to build a budget gaming rig primarily for esports titles like Fortnite, Valorant, and CS2. I'm considering pairing either the i3 12100F or the Ryzen 5 5500 with a GTX 1660 Super. They both cost about the same when including a motherboard, but the i3 is a bit cheaper individually. I'm really curious about which CPU will perform better in gaming and which one might last longer for future titles. I've seen some discussions on this topic, but I could really use some straightforward comparisons and reasons behind the choice. What do you think?

I've checked out some comparisons, and they're pretty close overall. I'd lean towards the R5 5500 mostly for longevity due to its extra cores. The i3 12100F is great for games that just tap into a few cores, but if you're looking for something that can handle more demanding games in the future, the extra cores of the 5500 might be beneficial.

From what I remember, when they first launched, the 5500 struggled a bit with gaming due to having less L3 cache. The i3 12100F often outperformed it in games like CS:GO. However, as you play newer titles, having those extra cores with the R5 could help a lot. For competitive gaming, the 12100F usually comes out on top, but the 5500 may prove better for future games that utilize more cores.

That's good to know! Makes sense, but what about playing something like Fortnite? Is there a noticeable difference?
