I'm looking to give my old laptop (Intel 4th gen, Nvidia GTX 850M) to my mom, who lives in a different country. She's not very tech-savvy and will mainly use it for browsing and light photo editing. Since she has no experience with computers, I want to choose a Linux distro that minimizes the chances of her needing technical help. Also, should I consider anything specific regarding the Nvidia GPU to prevent any issues?

Linux Mint is a solid choice! It’s user-friendly and has a Windows-like interface, which can make the transition easier for her.

I'm not sure if Linux is the best option for your mom. My gut says she might be better off with Windows 10, despite the security risks. Imagine her calling you for help with Linux-specific issues when she tries to use software that’s only for Windows—that could turn into a headache for you both.

True! There are so many times I've had to deal with my parents' tech troubles. It's almost easier to let them stick with the familiar even if it does come with some risk.
