I recently bought an inexpensive external DVD drive from Temu, but I'm having trouble getting it to recognize my region. I'm using a Windows 10 laptop that's unactivated. From what I understand, to change the region, I need to insert a DVD from my region, go to the device manager, and update the settings to switch from the default region 1 to region 2. However, even after inserting a DVD from my region, the drive still says it requires media from region 2. I've tried switching to different regions, but I keep running into the same error. Does anyone have any suggestions?

It sounds like you might be running into the limitations of your DVD drive. Many cheaper models don’t support region switching properly. If you really want to use it for archiving photos and footage, you could try using third-party software that allows you to bypass region locks or use it as a read-only drive. Just be sure to check the software's legitimacy first!
Honestly, you might be out of luck with that drive. It’s common for low-cost drives to have issues when it comes to region settings. If it’s not working even with your own DVDs, you could consider contacting customer support for a refund or replacement. But if not, using it for basic data storage could still be an option—just don’t expect to watch DVDs on it without hassle.
I'm considering getting a refund and looking for a more reliable option. Just want something that works without all these headaches.
Thanks for the tip! I’ll look into that software option for sure. Just need something simple to manage my files.
