Why is my laptop using so much CPU and memory while idle?

Hey everyone! I've been noticing that my laptop's CPU and memory usage seem really high even when I'm just letting it sit idle. The usage hovers around 20% for CPU and 40% for memory, and it spikes at random moments. I'm wondering if there's something I can do to fix this? Is it possible that there's malware causing this issue? Also, when I look into which programs are using the CPU, a bunch adds up to about 10-15%, but I can't figure out where the last 10% is coming from. Any suggestions?

Make sure you really can't find that last 10% of usage! If you hold down CTRL while checking Task Manager, it will pause the updates and let you see how much each program is using at that moment. It can help you track down what’s eating up resources.

It sounds like you might be running Windows. Try opening Task Manager and see if anything is peaking during those times. Sometimes antivirus software, the search indexer, or even your browser can hog resources. It’s also worth checking for any ongoing updates that might be running in the background.

If you're worried about malware, consider reviewing a guide specific to that, as it could be a hidden process that's causing the high usage. Also, check if you need to upgrade your RAM, which might help with memory usage issues.
