Did I Damage My Laptop’s SSD?

I recently took out my Samsung PM991 SSD from my laptop to install it in my new PC, but now the BIOS doesn't recognize the SSD. I tried putting it back in my laptop, and it's still not detected. I can't see any visible damage on the SSD since it has a simple design. I'm really confused about how it could be damaged, but I'm starting to think it might be defective.

I get what you're saying! If the BIOS can't see the SSD, then it doesn’t matter what OS you have. Have you considered checking the pins for damage? Sometimes it’s something subtle. And if you’re reinstalling, just ensure it fits correctly; there’s a specific angle to slide it in. If everything looks good and it’s still not recognized, it might really be a dead SSD.

It's a bummer when tech doesn’t work right. Sounds like you've done a thorough check. Remember, things like static electricity can do weird stuff to SSDs, even if you don’t see physical damage. It might be worth trying it in another machine if you can. Sometimes just a different setup will make a difference.

First off, if your BIOS isn't detecting the SSD, no operating system will either, so that's a red flag. It might be worth considering electrostatic discharge (ESD) during the removal process or if you handled it improperly. Before jumping to conclusions, double-check that you're looking in the right section of the BIOS—make sure it’s under storage, not just boot devices. Also, when you insert it, ensure it’s at the right angle and fully locked into place.
