Hey everyone, I had a WD 2TB HDD that I was watching a movie from when suddenly it stopped displaying. I'm curious, is it safe to unplug the SATA cable while my PC is running? I had to switch SATA ports after turning off my PC, and it became accessible again. What could be the effects of hot swapping on the SATA ports?

Generally, it's not a great idea to unplug the SATA cable while your PC is on. Most experts recommend turning your computer off before doing that. While it might not cause any immediate issues, it's better to be safe!
