Why is my laptop using 7GB of RAM right after booting up?

Hey everyone! I recently factory reset my laptop because it was lagging, but now I'm noticing that it uses around 7GB of RAM right after I boot it up. I tried using RamMap to free up memory, and that helped temporarily, but after restarting, it goes back to using almost all my memory again. Any ideas on what might be causing this annoying issue?

Sounds like your system is caching applications that you often use. If you have 8GB of RAM and it's showing 7GB used right after booting, that's quite a lot. Windows does this to speed up access, but if it's causing problems for you, maybe check your Task Manager for any background processes that are taking up memory.

That's interesting! I didn't realize it did that. I’ll check the Task Manager right after my next boot.

Just a thought, but how often do you restart your laptop? If you're running multiple applications or have heavy usage habits, the RAM might just be managing your tasks. Check if it's something you can optimize instead.

Also, make sure to check your startup programs in Task Manager. Sometimes there are unnecessary applications starting up that use up RAM right away. And just a heads up, 8GB isn't as much RAM these days with most applications and games wanting more, so consider an upgrade if you can!

You could try using the Autoruns tool from Sysinternals to really clean up any bloatware and startup items that might be running without you realizing it. It's a handy tool for managing what's in your system.

You might want to consider a clean installation of Windows. It can really help clear out any unnecessary bloat that might be occupying your RAM. It might be a hassle, but it could resolve the issue for good!

Thanks, I think I’ll keep this as a backup plan if nothing else works.
