Frustrating PC Freezes While Gaming – Need Help!

I'm having a really tough time with my old PC setup. I've got an EVGA 3070ti paired with an i7-11700k, but I feel like that CPU is a disaster. Transitioning to AMD isn't an option right now since I just graduated and can't afford to upgrade. The real issue I'm facing is that my computer keeps freezing randomly. When it happens, nothing works; I have to hit the power button to reboot. This problem is particularly annoying when I'm trying to play games like Tarkov and Valheim. Suddenly, the game freezes, and I hear a click, leaving me stuck on the last frame. I've tried using the task manager and the GPU refresh shortcut without success. I'm planning to run a stress test to see if it's a temperature issue, but I'm at a loss. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You might want to check your CPU temperatures first. If it’s running hot, consider setting the game's affinity in the properties to limit how many cores it can use. This trick helped me significantly reduce CPU load and temperature issues with my own setup. Also, ensure your GPU drivers are up to date! If you can, glance through the Event Viewer to find any clues as to what’s going wrong.

Start with the simplest solution: use the Windows Memory Diagnostic tool. Your i7-11700k should perform well with your 3070ti, so if you're facing freezing, I suspect it might be your RAM. If that's the case, check your RAM first, then look at the motherboard afterward. PSU could also be an issue, followed by the GPU and CPU.

Yeah, once you run the stress test, if it fails quickly, you might need to consider RMA or just buying new sticks. It can be frustrating!

I’ve had RAM issues before but didn’t know how to test it. It gets pretty warm. Any tips?

If you have G.Skill RAM, remember you’re covered by a lifetime warranty. To pinpoint faulty RAM, remove one module and see if the freezing continues. If it doesn’t freeze, swap the modules around and test again to find the culprit.
