Is Upgrading to a Ryzen 7 7800X3D Worth It for Gaming?

Hey everyone! I could use some advice. I've got a gaming PC with the following specs: a GeForce RTX 3060 Ti with 8GB of VRAM, 16GB of DDR4 RAM, and a Ryzen 5 5600X processor. Lately, I've been experiencing a decline in FPS while playing Rust due to recent game updates. I'm considering upgrading my CPU to a Ryzen 7 7800X3D and adding another 16GB of RAM. Would this upgrade cause any bottleneck issues, or is this a solid plan? Thanks!

Just a heads up, if you currently have a Ryzen 5 5600X, your RAM is actually DDR4, not DDR5. If you upgrade to the 7800X3D, you'll need a new AM5 motherboard and DDR5 RAM as well. But the 7800X3D is a fantastic choice for your setup! Just keep in mind the additional costs involved.

Thanks for the info! I didn't realize that about the RAM. Appreciate it!

If you choose the 7800X3D, be prepared for a GPU bottleneck, which isn't totally bad. Just remember, upgrading to the 7800X3D means you'll have to switch to a compatible motherboard and get DDR5 RAM. If you're open to suggestions, I can help point you in the right direction for those upgrades.

Upgrading to the 7800X3D is a great plan; however, it's important to acknowledge that there might be a GPU bottleneck with the 3060 Ti. That said, Rust is CPU-intensive, so the bottleneck might not be a drastic issue for you. If you're looking for a more budget-friendly option, consider the 5700X3D as it could also give you a solid performance boost without breaking the bank.

How much better is the 5700X3D compared to my current 5600X?
